Some More Pencil Drawings

Couple of head pencil drawings for Goblin characters I did recently....

I have purchased some new artrbooks, instructional ones I will be taking at a look at these on the blog soonish when I have had time to look through them properly and take some photos. These are Otherworld by Tom Kidd, The Realm of Faery by Ed Org ,Drawing For Fantasy Artists by Socar Myles and Otherworld by Tom Kidd. All great books and I'll get into details on each of them. I also have several books by John Howe, a particularly great book by Alan Lee and Brian Froud and a host of other art books they you may be interested to know about. Of course, now Amazon allows you to look inside each of these books online it makes purchasing decisions a little easiers, but anyway I'll give you my impression here.

Ogre On War Rhino

Came across a mini which has really impressed me, it's an Ogre on a War Rhino, currently on Cool Mini Or Nots top 20 minis of the week. The reason it interests me was I was meant to be scultping something similiar myself. I am not a great fan of the Rhinox sculpts by GW, they are good of course, but I wanted something more ferocious and primal looking for my ogres. Have only done some rough sketches for own one at the moment. Anyway, this one was sculpted by Scibor, who has featured in White Dwarf for some of his custom Rhinox sculpts he done a few years ago now.

You can visit Scibors website here, there are some good minis available here.

The paintjob has some great colour choices and is really striking - love it. I am not sure of the artist who painted it, but great job!!! This model is available to buy in Scibors store now.

Artist Ralph Horsely's Talisman Box Art

Just come across a post from fantasy artist Ralph Horsely, the man responsible for all the box art paintings for the boardgame Talisman by Fantasy Flight Games. I have had the pleasure of seeing many of the original paintings for the boardgame and its expansions and believe me, Ralph is a fantastic painter. Cool arty stuff is why you are here so without much more waffle I'll get to the point.... Ralph is running an article on his blog detailing the step by step creation of the box art for the new expansion just released, Talisman The City.

If you look around Ralphs website you can view much of his work, some of which is still available for sale. Go have a look!!! Many CCG artwork originals especially from Magic The Gathering by Wizards of the Coast and World of Warcraft stuff.

Talisman Expansion - The City Has Arrived!!!

Fantastic news, a new expansion for my favourite boardgame!!! And it has a board as well! I have long awaited the arrival of The City as I never had this expansion when I was a kid so I am keen to play it. Thankfully I have been able to set up a fairly regular group of Talisman players from out of our Magic The Gathering S'n'M nights (Yes Sunday Night Magic - Anything goes!). We have between 4-6 players normally and its a great deal of fun doing stuff to stitch each other up in the dash to the centre of the board. If you have never played Talisman and love fantasy and board games, pick it up you won't regret it.

New Year - Fresh Start

Just a quick post to say Happy New year to everyone, although the year has already featured some personal problems and bereavement. Thats why I have been a bit quiet here. I hope to concentrate more on my hobbies this year. 2012 was an awful year for me due to the breakdown of my marraige, so the blog was not updated very often. Time to refocus and get back into drawing, painting and sculpting. If I don't update this blog enough with good stuff, somebody kick me....

I am assembling some bits and pieces of news and stuff over the next few days. One thing I would like to do this year is feature more 2D stuff. As you know this blog started off as me getting excited about cool fantasy/sci-fi sculptures and posting them to share with everyone. This is great but as I get back into my 2D work I am feeling the urge to promote that just as equally. Expect photos and much pimping of the artists work and websites, products etc. I will be doing some book reviews as well. These will be brief looks at some of the books I have bought on sculpting, painting and drawing as well as various art books.

Anyway, expect some stuff soonish. I need to dig myself out of the hole first and then back to business.

Adrian Smith VS Cyril Roquelaine, The Last Days!

Unfortunately I was working over the weekend so couldn't keep up with posting these awesome sculpts on the blog, but hopefully by now you have subscribed to Adrian's and Cyril's pages anyway so it shouldn't matter! Here is a round up the final days images, all great sculpts and all that's left to say is that it is a great shame that these won't be available for us to buy as resin kits. I know I would like to paint some of these beauties!

Day 5

Adrians choice of art.....

Cyrils finished sculpt....

I am so glad this piece was chosen to be sculpted - thank you Adrian!!! I really do love this artwork and quite fancy having a go at sculpting this myself one day.

Day 6

Adrians chosen art for the day was......

Cyrils finished sculpture......

I just knew that this one would get picked! It's a great and popular character of Adrian's that appears in a few of his illustrations.

Day 7

This one was an unexpected and awesome choice featuring two characters. This piece of work is the signed art print that people who pre-ordered the Illuminations book got as a freebie.

Cyrils completed sculpt.....

And that's it all over, boo hoo. Some great eye candy though and that's what this blog is all about. My passion for fantasy and sharing the cool stuff I find with everyone reading this blog and for me to sit back and peruse at leisure. I will get around to sorting out all this stuff into the cool sculpt archive just so you can get to the meat of the blog a little easier. I have another sketch of my own to share soon and I have a project in the works I cannot share at the moment that will appear elsewhere on the net at some stage. That's it for today folks!

Adrian Smith VS Cyril Roquelaine Day 4

I hope you have all subscribed to Adrians and Cyrils Facebook pages and are following this by now!! Catch up by looking at the posts below, head on over to their pages to view the sculpt progress throughout the course of the day and watch the time lapse videos!

After half a day asleep I crawled out of bed. Very late with todays posting, but this challenge is on my blog because it is incredibly cool art and idea and I want to be able to look back on all this stuff one day. So I shall still post this up regardless of the lateness of it.

Adrians chosen art for today....
